For years SMC Telematica joined the Caretakers-project. ‘Caretakers of the Environment’ organises a large annual environmental conference for high school pupils. Each year this conference takes place in another country, in this way the cultural exchange is different each time.

The organisation for the 1996-conference was in the hands of the Sintermeertencollege. The Conference on Environment and Development in Education and Research (CEDER) was organised in Kerkrade. 250 pupils of 32 different countries participated in this six-day conference.
De themes of the conference included: Industrial Development, Developing Environment, Energy, Environmental Education, Art in Environment, the Global Neighbourhood en Outdoor and Recreation.
